CHAMPIONING FEMINISM • MOVING TOWARDS EQUALITY FOR ALL

What do we want? Equal pay for all! When do we want it? NOW.

Here is to all the strong women out there on this international women's day. May we know them and may we raise them...

Feminism is mainly about the concentration on gender equality. The feminist theory wants all genders to be treated in the same way. The focus however, is about allowing women to gain the same fair treatment as men have as well as to speak out in society with fair contributions. Raising awareness for such controversial topics like this, as I did with my post on girl empowerment, play a great importance as they need to be discussed more.

There are two types of feminists; Radical and Liberal. Radical feminists have the belief that in all known societies the male domination over women still exist. They also think that all men oppress women therefore patriarchy is universally still there and that society is controlled mostly by men which means they can easily take advantage of women through things such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, financial, sexual and other abuse too. They believe men are the reason why most problems in this world exist and that women could have done a much better job of handling things.

Liberal feminists on the other hand, believe that all men and women are equal. They still have concerns over the exploitation of women however, their focus is to fight for the equal opportunities for women and men to be the same. They would like to live in a formal society in which a person’s gender is no longer important. An example would be of that in a nursing home. There are seen to be more female carers than men so where is the equality in that? The role of this career is seen low by society or is It because male carers are not seen as having a caring role??? An advantage of feminism is that it has made the role of women more visible in society. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that feminists can be accused of being ignorant towards the domestic labor of men.

I used to think I am a mix of both a Radical and Liberal Feminist, purely for the fact that many men had done bad things to me in the past, and will continue to do so if they aren't spoken up about. Then again, I also believe that men deserve a chance as well, as not all one gender can be the same, therefore we can't just spill the blame of a minor majority on them all. Women have also done things to men too therefore, it would be wrong for me to have this view right? I want there to be equality for all men and women, and for there to be no shame in a man wanting to be a nurse, a midwife, a hairdresser or even a makeup artist. Everyone has different hobbies and interests and should be free to express themselves in whatever they want to go in to!

Paperchase currently have a wonderful feminist range out, empowering all women, including notebooks, stationery and some decorative pieces too. I am not sponsored to say any of this, however, as I have used my own photography of their products, I thought I would mention if anybody was interested in buying them! I currently work there as a sales assistant so will be mentioning them a lot as I love their stuff!

Mothers day falls just two days after 'International Woman's Day' on the 8th of March. Females are strong as hell and need to be represented more in society. Why not find your mum a card or gift letting her know how fierce she is? Or maybe even one for yourself!

It can be viewed just here:

If you got to the end of this post then thank you so so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed! What are your thoughts on Feminism? Leave a lovely comment down below and make it a discussion...

  1. The misconception that feminism is wanting women to be superior is so wrong, we just want equality. It came out recently that the actress who played Queen Elizabeth in The Crown on Netflix was payed less than Matt Smith - why?! Loved reading this xx

  2. Hey are your definitions are based on any books or anything? I definitely can't quote anyone, but I think that equality is more of a catchphrase. If women do what men do, they can most definitely oppress other women (campaigning for war, cutting welfare services, etc). I'm more for liberation!
